This two-storey structure on Smith Street in Winnipeg was built in 1899 as an investment for lawyer F. S. Champion. In 1936, he sold the single-family dwelling to contractor Peter McDiarmid (1880-1971), who undertook a major renovation in 1937 to turn it into a six-suite apartment block. McDiarmid owned it until his death.
