Historic Sites of Manitoba: Bloomfield Block (408 Alexander Avenue, Winnipeg)This three-storey wooden frame block located at the south corner of Alexander Avenue and Ellen Street in Winnipeg was commissioned by cigar wholesaler Abraham J. Bloomfield, designed by local architect Vere Barton, and built in 1906 by contractor L. C. Leduc at a cost of $16,000. The 42 foot by 32 foot building contained a suite of five rooms and a bathroom on the upper floors and commercial space on the main floor. It was demolished some time between 1972 and 1983, the site now being occupied by a residence constructed in 1983.
