In the early 1920s, the employees of the Canadian National Railway depot operated a curling league known as the Depot Curling League, that curled out of the Terminal Curling Club on Mayfair Avenue. Employees of the Fort Rouge Shops and Transcona Shops felt they would like to own their own building. In 1926, a committee was formed and Dick Johnston was designated as the Building Chairman for the club that was built with six sheets located at 31 Main Street at the end of Mayfair which opened in 1927.
On 1 December 1979, that club burnt to the ground. Through the efforts of many club members, the club was rebuilt on the same location. When plans were formulated for the new Norwood bridge, the club received an expropriation notice and the club built a new facility at 696 Archibald Street in St. Boniface which opened in the fall of 1997.
On the ice, Fort Garry was home to Betty Duguid, who skipped a team to the Canadian Ladies Curling Championship in 1967.
