Manitoba Organization: Assiniboine Golf Club

A nine hole golf course in the St. James area of Winnipeg was established in 1917 with a first clubhouse located at 433 Inglewood Street. Three years later, a new clubhouse was built at 2045 Ness Avenue at the end of Mandeville Street.

In 1937, with the expansion of Stevenson Field (Winnipeg International Airport), the course lost its north end. In May 1937, the club negotiated to take over the remains of the Deer Lodge Golf Club, using 11 holes of the Deer Lodge course with seven of its own to make an 18 hole course. However, that configuration was short lived because, with the start of the Second World War in 1939, the Royal Canadian Air Force took much of the land. A new nine hole layout was planned and completed prior to the end of the war.

In 1964, the City of St. James made plans to build the St. James Civic Centre. This also entailed changes to the course design.

Today, the Assiniboine Golf Club operates as a nine hole course.
