Manitoba Business: Standard Elevator Company

This Winnipeg-based grain company was incorporated on 15 July 1909. Its founding shareholders and directors included Capel Tilt (managing director), George Andrew Carruthers (secretary), William Kellman Chandler, Esther Lockington (accountant), Hugh Phillipps, Henry Walter Whitla, and Ernest Angus Fletcher (student-at-law).

The company's country grain elevators were all located in Saskatchewan on lines of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway. Over time, the number ranged from a low of 18 (in 1911) to a high of 33 (1924). By 1937, the number had decreased to 17 likely due to the impact of long-term drought on the prairies.

The assets of the company were sold to Searle Grain around 1938.
