Municipally Designated Site

An exceptional example of a substantial dwelling in the Victorian style.

The prominent bandshell-shaped corner verandah and the two-storey porch and balcony with elaborate detailing distinguish this handsome brick-clad home. Built for lawyer A.G. Hay, the house was later home to several local physicians, and remains an attractive and readily recognizable local landmark.

Grandson James Hossack lived here

John Lawrence House

Built by John Lawrence after he and his wife left the farm in 1902



Occupied by Lawrence family members until about 1960.

Also owned by Mike & Mrs. (McMurchy) Bellew and Mr. & Mrs. Beikema

In about 1940 the house was divided into apartments.



Features include a small attic dormer and a verandah

 

 


Jabez Jewel House
317 Broadway Ave.

Mr. Jewel brought all the material except the bricks with them when they came to Killarney in 1899.

The brick were fired in a kiln south of town and dyed a rose colour with a process known only to Jabez.


Previous owners include Reginald and Lavina Follett, and Garth and Sharon (Gray) Freeman.



Features include nice eave brackets, a
atone foundation and an arched window.

 

 


Buhler House

This stone house was possibly built by Sam Hossack.


 


C.H. Dafoe House

C.H. Dafoe built this house for his family when they moved from their farm at Jackfish River.

They lived here until 1946

It has original woodwork and hardwood floors, lath and plaster upstairs, and a cistern.

 

 


Shannon  House

Features include a bay window , original floors, and staircase.
Built of multi-coloured stones.
Renovated and well-kept

Other occupants include Ken & Doreen Warren.





Has a complex roofline, dormers, nice window surrounds and some stained glass.

 




Stillwell House

Owned by Albert Stillwell, a pioneer blacksmith.

Other owners have been Hubert Richards, pharmacist, and Cathy & Cam Wilkins.

Jason & Linsey Maurice had PetC oat Junction at the back of the house.

It features a large veranda and a small rounded window. An upper balcony and door enclosure added when the house was a Tea House.

There is a gabled addition at back.
