Historic Sites of Manitoba: Winnipeg General Hospital Powerhouse (732 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg)

This three-storey brick building at the southeast corner of McDermot Avenue and Emily Street in Winnipeg was built between January 1917 and April 1918 at a cost of about $95,800. It provided power for the nearby Winnipeg General Hospital. The powerhouse operated until 1973 when it was retired. The building now serves as shops and offices for the maintenance department of the Health Sciences Centre.
