In 1892, the village of Bruxelles was established at this site in what is now the Municipality of Lorne. It moved to the present site, about two miles to the southeast, in 1906. A stone monument at the original site, erected and donated by Omer Arthur Knockaert (1921-2000), lists the locations of the two sites and names of priests at St. Gerard Roman Catholic Church.
