Historic Sites of Manitoba: Mount Vernon School No. 697 (RM of Elton)

Mount Vernon School District was formally established in March 1892 and a school building was constructed at this site in the Rural Municipality of Elton. The district was dissolved in January 1959 and its area became part of the Elton Municipal School No. 2360. The school closed permanently in June 1964 and the building was later demolished. A monument, erected in August 2001, commemorates the pioneers, teachers, and students of the school.
