This one-storey brick and stucco, Streamline Moderne-style building is at the northwest corner of Dunraven Avenue and Overton Street in St. Vital (now part of Winnipeg). Measuring 30 feet by 38 feet, it was built between 1949 and 1950 by day labour for the Winnipeg Electric Company. It served as a local substation to provide electrical power to nearby home and businesses.
In 1953, operation of the substation was taken over by the Manitoba Power Commission, predecessor of Manitoba Hydro. At the time of a 2022 site visit, the building was relatively unmodified from its original appearance.
