The Barrows School District was established formally in March 1913 via an award from School Inspector Edward Howson Walker following the petition from local residents of the Red Deer Lumber Company mill community at Red Deer Lake. Initially, its catchment consisted of Sections 20 and 21 within Township 45 Range 28 West of the Prime Meridian, and a schoolhouse established near the southwest corner of NE21-45-28W. The affairs of the district were later overseen by an Official Trustee, the last of whom was Clifford Knox Rogers (?-1952). The district was dissolved in April 1952.
Among the earliest teachers at Barrows School were John Robert Williams (Fall 1913 - Spring 1914), John A. May (Fall 1914 - Fall 1915), Y?. C. Vrooman (Spring 1916), and Alex Brown (Fall 1916).
