Located on the southwest corner of Logan Avenue at Fountain Street in Winnipeg, the original Victoria Chambers building was built in 1882. By 1906, it was a three-storey building featured ground level commercial units, with both upper levels comprising an approximately 25-apartment block.
The site, including the adjacent Victoria Chambers Annex / Fountain Annex built in 1907, were both renamed around 1922, with this building renamed as Fountain Apartments. It remained in operation into the latter 1930s and was closed by 1940 due to insanitary conditions and elevated fire hazard.
In late April 1942, the City Council voted unanimously to condemn both buildings and have them demolished, citing public health and safety. The Fountain Apartments were demolished by the summer.
