In 1904, the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church opened its first chapel on the north side of College Avenue in Winnipeg and the building also hosted the parochial St. Joseph's School. Classes were held in a hall/theatre until a purpose-built, three-storey school building was commissioned by the German congregation and designed and built by Leopold Villeroy in 1906 at a cost of about $9,000. The building measured 26 feet by 70 feet and was located on the north side of the church. Instruction in English and German was given by members of the Benedictine Order.
The school building has been demolished and its former site is now part of a parking lot for the church.
