This two-storey brick and stone building at the corner of Home Street and Wellington Avenue in Winnipeg was designed by local architect William Barnes Lait. The first floor, measuring 40 feet by 100 feet, was built in 1910 by the firm of Pattinson and Eilbeck at a cost of about $19,000. It was occupied by the laundry business of Luther Judge Rumford and William Stanley Brock. Two years later, a second storey designed by Lait and built by Pattinson and Eilbeck was added at a cost of about $5,100.
The laundry business, known originally as the Rumford Sanitary Laundry Limited, was later named Rumford's Limited. By the 1950s, it focussed on commercial laundry as the Sunshine Uniform Supply Limited and Acme Linen Supply. Purchased in 1980 by a consortium that owned the Perth’s Laundry Company, it was sold in 2012 to a Calgary-based corporate group.
