In 1900, Jim Mowat built this house in Gladstone. He came to Canada in 1889 and joined the staff of the Galloway store. As a butcher, he also had a slaughterhouse and helped to fill the large contracts for railway gangs. Jim also bought a farm that has been operated by four generations of the Mowat family.
