Historic Sites of Manitoba: Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Blessed Assumption (Meleb, RM of Armstrong)

Built between 1922 and 1923, the interior walls and ceilings of this church at Meleb, in the Rural Municipality of Armstrong, are adorned with paintings by artist Jacob Maydanyk. On the grounds is a marker commemorating Peter Trakalo, a member of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada who was killed on 16 August 1944 at the age of 27 years, and who lies in an unmarked grave in France.
