The St. Hyacinthe School District at La Salle, in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald, was formed by a municipal bylaw in July 1891. Before a school building was constructed, classes were held on the second floor of a local store. A dedicated schoolhouse opened in the spring of 1904.
In 1927, with the establishment of a Catholic convent at the northwest corner of NE28-8-2 East at La Salle by the Sisters of the Cross [Filles de la Croix], responsibility for teaching at a newly-built, two-classroom school fell to the nuns. The old school building was sold and became an addition to the barn of a local farmer. Renovated in 1938, the building was replaced by a three-classroom structure in 1959. The old school was sold and used as a garage and storage shed.
