Historic Sites of Manitoba: Investors Building (280 Broadway, Winnipeg)

This seven-storey building at the southwest corner of Broadway at Smith Street in Winnipeg was designed by the architectural firm of Moody Moore and Partners. Originally four storeys, it was constructed between July 1956 and November 1957 by the Commonwealth Construction Company at an estimated cost of $1.65 million. It accommodated the head office for the Investors Syndicate of Canada Limited and its two affiliated mutual funds, Investors Mutual of Canada Limited and Investors Group Canadian Fund Limited, along with some other companies.

In 1962, Investors Syndicate President Theodore O. “Ted” Peterson announced a three-storey addition to the building, also designed by Moody Moore and Partners, to be constructed by Bird Construction. It was completed in Spring 1963.
