Historic Sites of Manitoba: Holy Ghost School (319 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg)

This school on Selkirk Avenue in Winnipeg, the first one in Canada for Polish immigrants arriving from Europe, was founded in 1902 by Roman Catholic priest John Kulawy. Originally housed in a three-storey building, the present structure dates from 1958. A sod-turning ceremony on 11 May 1958 was attended by Alderman Peter Stanley Taraska, Father F. Kosakiewicz, Msgr. I. E. Zielonka, and lawyer Theodore Constantine Greschuk.
