The Gonta School District was established in February 1910 and a one-room schoolhouse operated at SW20-31-22W in what is now the Municipality of Ethelbert. In 1967, the district was dissolved and its catchment area became part of the Duck Mountain School Division. No vestige of the school remained at the time of a 2014 site visit.
