Historic Sites of Manitoba: Giltedge School No. 1678 (RM of Grey)A monument marks the site of Giltedge School, which opened in May 1913, in a building on the northeast quarter of 27-9-4 west of the Principal Meridian, in the Rural Municipality of Grey. Closed for eight years due to low student enrollment in the late 1940s and early 1950s, it reopened then closed permanently in July 1966. The former school building was moved to Fannystelle where it was renovated into a private residence. The monument was erected in 1992, for the Elm Creek centennial year, and dedicated to the pioneers, teachers, and students of Giltedge School. Among the teachers of Giltedge School were Miss I. M. Allward (1913), Miss K. Walmsley (1914), Miss Rose Frederickson (1914), Jean Connell, Lulu Wall, L.
