Historic Sites of Manitoba: Imperial Grain Elevator / International Grain Elevator / Federal Grain Elevator / Manitoba Pool Grain Elevator B (Cypress River, RM of Victoria)

This 84,000-bushel wooden grain elevator complex at Cypress River, on the CPR Glenboro Subdivision in the Rural Municipality of Victoria, began in 1907 with a small elevator built by the International Grain Company. Its capacity was increased to 28,000 bushels in 1911. Sold to Federal Grain in 1929, it was expanded to 40,000 bushels in 1931, to 67,000 bushels in 1951, and to 125,000 bushels in 1954. It became the Manitoba Pool B elevator here in 1972. The elevator and its annexes were destroyed by fire on 18 June 1975 and, because sufficient grain storage was available in the Pool A elevator, it was not rebuilt.
