Historic Sites of Manitoba: Claremont Court (520 Burnell Street, Winnipeg)

Located on the west side of Burnell Street in Winnipeg, across from Thelmo Mansions, Claremont Court was comprised of two parallel housing terraces designed by architect S. Vigfusson and built by contractor S. Gislason in 1909 for owner Thorsteinn Oddson. Each of the single-storey blocks measured 190.75 feet long and 26 feet deep, with ten apartments per block. Every suite had a dining room, two bedrooms, kitchen, parlor, pantry, and bathroom. Both terraces were separated by a grassy centre court about 50 feet wide. The complex was completed at a cost of about $30,000.

Claremont Court was demolished in 1968 and replaced with the two 28-suite blocks of Prince Harold Apartments (510 Burnell) and Prince Randolph Apartments (520 Burnell) built by Koberstein Construction Limited in 1968-1969.
