Historic Sites of Manitoba: Barkman Heritage Walkway (Elmdale Street, Steinbach)

The Barkman Heritage Walkway in Steinbach, named for farmer and municipal official Johann G. Barkman (1858-1937), pays tribute to early Mennonites settlers who, fleeing religious persecution in Europe, arrived in Manitoba in 1874. Plaques along the walkway commemorate the first families of Steinbach and their businesses.
