Betty Jane Wylie

Writer, playwright.

Born Betty Jane McKenty at Winnipeg on 21 February 1931, she graduated from the University of Manitoba with BA (1951) and MA (1952) degrees in English. She left Winnipeg in 1967 when her husband William Tennant “Bill” Wylie (1927-1973), administrator of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, was appointed General Manager of the Stratford Festival Theatre. In recognition of her service as a writer and playwright, she was inducted into the Order of Canada (2003), received an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba (2003), and received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012).
