Son of Joseph Maurice Felix Vandal (1910-1997), great-grandson of Martin Jerome, he was a Winnipeg city councillor (1995-2004, 2006-2014) and ran unsuccessfully for Mayor in 2004. He was elected to the House of Commons in the 2015, 2019, and 2021 federal elections.
