Community activist, Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba (1993-1999).
He served President of the Manitoba Metis Federation (1985-1992) and Lieutenant Governor for Manitoba (1993-1999). In recognition of his community service, he was given honorary doctorates by the University of Manitoba (1996) and Brandon University (2000), was inducted into the Order of Manitoba (2001), and received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), Le Prix Riel (2005), and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022).
