Broomhill
1959
A Post office called Broomhill was established in 1892, on the
southwest quarter of 18-5-27 , the home- stead of Mr. and Mrs. Will
Kilkenny. In the year 1905, the railroad on the Lauder-Alida branch of
the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived. A townsite was established on the
south side of the north half of 17-5-27.
1905
Broomhill was on the map before the railroad arrived when it had to
move about a kilometre east.

From Vantage Points IV …..
In its heyday, the Kilkenny store was the centre of the community. It
practically was the community. More than a service centre – it was a
meeting place – even a dance hall.
In addition to all its practical usefulness, it also had style. The
building’s east and south walls are made from patterned concrete
blocks, cast on site using sand and gravel obtained nearby. Pressed
metal walls and ceiling panels lined the interior.”

From Historic Sites of Manitoba:
Built in 1924 by Albert and Ephraim Iver of Chicago, the 128 by 36-foot
barn was equipped with the latest farm conveniences. But the Iver
brothers could not make a go of it and returned to the United States.
The farm changed hands several times before being purchased by the
Gervin family in 1968.
