Biography: Born
Claims: With son Richard John, came in 1881. Mr. Dobbyn had
“Dobbyn City” surveyed on 36-3-27 in anticipation of a coming rail
line. In 1905 at 80 yrs. started Melita Brick & Tile Co. after
discovering red brick clay near the river. Involved son Richard,
Charles D. Lamont, Johnston & Pope.

Forsyth, William
Biography:
Claims: Pumpmaker. Used logs from Turtle Mtn. Had a wind-powered
drill. Turned the fence posts for the Melita Cemetery

Captain Large built the Empress of Ireland, a steam powered boat that
did saw service on the Souris River in 1909, 1910. The boat was moved
to Brandon and re-named the Assiniboine Queen and used to tranport coal
to a bridge construction site east of Brandon.
Mr. Large openned a machine shop in Waskada before moving east in 1914
where he was a supervisor in a munitions factory.
Some time later he recovered the remains of the H.M. Schooner “Nancy”
from Nancy Island. (Fur trader converted to a warship for the War of
1812)
