C. Blind Souris Medicine Wheel Site
• located on NW 8-1-26 Wl, on the east side of the Blind Souris
channel in a pasture field.
• consists of a medicine wheel circle which looks like a large
tipi ring with a small rock feature plus a bison rubbing stone and a
couple of tipi rings to the north
• one of the very few reported medicine wheels in Manitoba
Site Development
• requires walking access, owner's permission, signage,
and mowing of
vegetation around the features
• requires consultation with Canupawakpa Dakota Nation regarding
sacredness, desir-ability of promoting the site, and what messages to
interpret
D. Linear Mounds National Historic Site of Canada
(LMNHSC)
• located on NW of 10-2-27 Wl,
on
the prairie edge overlooking
the Souris River
• consists of 2 long linear mounds, of which one and part of the
second are on Parks Canada property, and one low round mound (Capes
1963, Syms 1978, 1979a)
• ready access along nearby municipal road with local signage installed
• has interpretive signage, developed by local people in
consultation with E. Leigh Syms for correct information, located
outside of the fenced
area of Parks Canada land
• has been identified on a number of local tourism brochures and
provincial Highways maps over the years
• Parks Canada is currently developing a master plan that includes
working with CDN and other local groups |
