Bethel School District No. 301

Bethel S.D. was organized in February, 1887 by William Ryan, Reeve of TM and Rev. Andrew Stewart, Inspector of Schools.
Located on SE 34-3-18.



 


Enterprise School

Established in May 1892, Enterprise School was merged into the Turtle Mountain School Division in January 1968.

Fairdale School No. 199

Fairdale School was established formally in May 1883 and a frame school building was erected on the northwest quarter of 21-2-16.
It closed in 1968. A rock cairn nearby commemorates it.

Glendenning School No. 552

Glendenning School was established formally in March 1888, and a school building was erected on the northwest quarter of 36-3-16.
It was dissolved in 1967.

Henderson School No. 1311

The Henderson School District was established formally in August 1904 and a one-room schoolhouse operated at SW15-1-18W.
During the 1940s, the building was used for services of the Bannerman Church of Christ. The school closed in 1968.

Highview School No. 427

Highview School was established formally in November 1885 and a frame school building was erected
the next year on the  northwest quarter of 11-2-17. In 1960,
it was consolidated with Lena Consolidated School No. 1393.

Holmfield School No. 699

The Holmfield School District was formally established in May 1892, in the village of Holmfield.. It closed due to low enrollment
in June 1974 and the building was demolished. Its bell sits atop the Bank of Toronto Vault.

Hullett School No. 700

Hullett School was established formally in May 1892, and a school building was erected on the southeast quarter of 29-3-16.
It closed in 1967, and the district was dissolved in 1968.

Jaques School Division No. 605

The Jaques SD, organized December 4, 1889 and situated on George Jaques' farm, was opened May 1890. School built on 1-2-17. Closed 1967





Killarney School No. 252

The first school in the vicinity of the Town of Killarney was erected around 1884, on the road south to Lena and the US border.
A two-storey, four-classroom brick and stone school was erected in town between Fall 1905 and early 1906, based
on a design by Winnipeg architect J. H. G. Russell. Construction was supervised by stonemason Samuel Hossack (1832-1913).

The site is now a public green space.

Lena School No. 1393

Lena School was established formally in August 1906 and a brick school building was erected the next year, in the village of Lena. In 1960, it became Lena Consolidated School No. 1393 when it was consolidated with nearby rural schools, Highview School No. 427 and Victoria Lake School No. 446. It joined the Turtle Mountain School Division in 1968 and closed two years later.

Long River School No. 720

Long River School was established formally in October 1892 and a school building was erected the next year on the
northwest quarter of 10-2-18. The school closed in 1966 and its district was dissolved in 1968.

Lyonshall School No. 223

Lyonshall School was established formally in 1883 and a one-classroom wood frame school building was erected on
the southwest quarter of 34-2-18. The school closed in 1966 and its district was dissolved the next year.

Maple Grove School No. 247 (RM of Morton)

The Maple Grove School District was established formally around 1883 and it operated a schoolhouse at NE26-2-19W in the
Rural Municipality of Morton. The district was dissolved in 1968. The former school building is gone but a sign marks its site.

Ninga School No. 485

Built in the village of Ninga, on a design by Winnipeg architect G. G. Teeter, the present Ninga School
building is used as a private residence.

Northcote School No. 396

The Northcote School District was established formally in April 1885. The present school building dates from 1906,
when a one-room structure was built of concrete blocks on the northeast corner of 22-3-17. The district was dissolved in January
1967. As of 2013, the building remained on its original site.

Oak Ridge School No. 328

Oak Ridge School was established formally in June 1885, and a school building was erected the next year on the
southeast quarter of 18-3-17. It closed in 1964. A fieldstone monument, erected in 1975, commemorates it.

Plum Hollow School No. 549

Plum Hollow School was established formally in August 1888 and a school building was erected in 14-1-17.
The school closed in 1962 and the district was dissolved the next year.

Rose Valley School No. 344

Rose Valley School was established formally in June 1884 and a frame school building was erected the next year
on the southwest quarter of 22-1-16. It closed in 1965.

Rowland School No. 470 (RM of Prairie Lakes)

The Rowland School District was established formally in August 1886.
A school operated at SW24-4-18W, in what is now the Rural Municipality of Prairie Lakes, from 1897 to 1963.
The school was destroyed by fire in 1963, after which students from the local area went to Buttrum Consolidated School No. 679.

Sanders School No. 392

The Sanders School District was established formally in April 1885 and a schoolhouse operated at NW20-2-17W in the
Rural Municipality of Turtle Mountain. The district was dissolved in 1968 but the former school building remains at the site.
As of 2012, its concrete foundation exhibits significant structural deterioration.

Tisdale School District No. 815

The settlers of this area expected the C.P.R.'s South Western Line would follow a survey, and surveyed a townsite of their own
with the help of T P Murray of Winnipeg, on Sec. 2-4-16, and gave it the name of Tisdale after the
chief engineer who surveyed the line.

A school was built on NE 8-4-16W, with formation date May 23, 1895.





Victoria Lake School No. 446

Victoria Lake School was established formally in July 1885 and a school building was erected on the northeast quarter of 12-1-18.
The school closed in 1960 when it was consolidated with Lena Consolidated School No. 1393.

Wakopa School No. 308 

The Wakopa School District was established in 1884 and a one-room schoolhouse operated at NE29-1-18W.
The district was dissolved in 1967.

West Derby School No. 194

West Derby School was established formally in April 1884, and a school building was erected on the northwest
quarter of 18-3-15. It closed in 1951 and the district was dissolved in 1959. A a fieldstone cairn dedicated on 1 July 1982 commemorates it.
