Mr. Malaher was former director of the Game Branch.

The site features tress and fruit-bearing species planted with the  intent of determining what types of food and cover plants could be grown on poor quality land that would be of benefit to pheasants during the winter.

- an experiment in revegitation – after the drought of the thirties.

Although many Wildlife Management Areas are subject to neglect and abuse - littering and habitat destruction - the Malaher Site is very well maintained.
