Historian.
She served as President of the Manitoba Historical Society (1995-1996), a member of its Governing Council (1984-1998), and on the following MHS committees: Field Trips (co-chair), Fundraising, Membership, Historic Preservation, as well as serving on the Manitoba History Day planning committee for several years under Dr. Richard Bennett's chairmanship. She served as Editor of MHS Keywords (1993-1995).
She also served on the Board of the Shevchenko Museum (Toronto), President of the Canadian Society of Ukrainian Labour Research, Winnipeg (2003), Vice-President of the Women's Auxiliary of the University of Winnipeg, and a board member of the Joseph Zuken Foundation. She was an active member of the Save the Eaton's Building Coalition. Around 1981, she married J. Brenton “Brent” Stearns.
In recognition of her service to Manitoba's history and heritage community, she received a Douglas Kemp Award (1999) and a Lieutenant Governor's Award for Historical Preservation and Promotion (2024).
