Lawyer, MLA (1979-1981), MLA (1981-1986), MLA (1986-1988).
Born at Altona on 16 February 1944, son of Henry Schroeder and Anna Braun, he was educated at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute at Gretna, University of Winnipeg, and University of Manitoba then worked as a lawyer. Active in the New Democratic Party (President in the late 1970s), he was its candidate in a 1971 provincial by-election but was defeated by Liberal Israel Harold “Izzy” Asper. He was subsequently elected at a 1979 by-election and was re-elected at the 1981 and 1986 general elections. He served as Minister of Finance (1981-1985), Minister of Labour and Manpower (1981-1982), Chairman of the Treasury Board (1983-1987), Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology (1986-1988), Minister of Energy and Mines (1986), and Attorney General (1987-1988). He was defeated in the 1988 general election.
