Home on the Prairie: A Red River Jamboree

Where: St. John's Cathedral, 135 Anderson Avenue, Winnipeg
When: 7:00 PM

This evening of music, dancing, stores and more will feature:

• Winston Wuttunee (Cree elder, drummer, singer, story teller)
• Simpson's Folly (songs and stories of life in the early days of the Scottish settlement at Red River)
• Norman Chief Memorial Dancers (Metis square dancers)
• Hilda Towerzey (piper)

Admission: $15 / person

Tickets are available from Pollock's Hardware Co-op (1407 Main Street), McNally Robinson Booksellers (Grant Park), and the Seven Oaks Historical Society (204-338-6399).

Additional parking is available on the MPIC lot on Main Street.

SCOTTISH SYMPHONY: A SELKIRK SETTLERS CELEBRATION

Where: Centennial Concert Hall, 555 Main Street, Winnipeg
When: 8:00 PM

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Joshua Weilerstein, will perform a special concert featuring the World Premiere of Red River by Sid Robinovitch (commissioned by the Seven Oaks Historical Society) as well as Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major by Beethoven and Symphony No. 3 in A Minor by Mendelsshohn.

Mendelssohn’s radiant Scottish Symphony was born from travels in Scotland during his triumphant successes in the British Isles, inspiration for one of the composer’s most affecting creations.

In June 2011, 18 year-old Beatrice Rana won First Prize at the Montreal International Music Competition and became its first Italian and youngest winner ever. We are proud to introduce this brilliant young artist to Winnipeg in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, composed when the young Beethoven was overwhelming listeners with his passion and intensity at the keyboard.
