9-10 November

SCOTTISH SYMPHONY: A SELKIRK SETTLERS CELEBRATION

Where: Centennial Concert Hall, 555 Main Street, Winnipeg
When: 8:00 PM

The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Joshua Weilerstein, will perform a special concert featuring the World Premiere of Red River by Sid Robinovitch (commissioned by the Seven Oaks Historical Society) as well as Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major by Beethoven and Symphony No. 3 in A Minor by Mendelsshohn.

Mendelssohn’s radiant Scottish Symphony was born from travels in Scotland during his triumphant successes in the British Isles, inspiration for one of the composer’s most affecting creations.

In June 2011, 18 year-old Beatrice Rana won First Prize at the Montreal International Music Competition and became its first Italian and youngest winner ever. We are proud to introduce this brilliant young artist to Winnipeg in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, composed when the young Beethoven was overwhelming listeners with his passion and intensity at the keyboard.

“From the moment she sat down at the piano during the first round of the [Montreal International] Competition, Rana sent chills through the room. She is a real personality, reminiscent of Argerich as a debutante minus the overwhelming intensity.” – La Scena Musicale

To purchase tickets for the Winnipeg concert, call 204-949-3999 or visitwww.wso.ca.
