The Thibert School District was formally established in April 1914 within unorganized territory in what would later become the Rural Municipality of Alonsa and a schoolhouse originally situated at the northwest corner of NW20-27-12W.

In April 1944, the district was expanded with the merging of Tamarack Lake School District No. 1894 and Sunland School District No. 1634 into the Thibert School District No. 1740. In 1945, a $2,000 debenture was issued to finance a new two-room schoolhouse. In lieu of the expanded districts catchment, a new school site was selected within the east half of 7-27-12W. An additional classroom was added, opening on 24 February 1958. The district also operated a playground at the northeast corner of NW31-26-12W until 1966.

In April 1967, the district was dissolved into the Turtle River School Division. From 1970 to 1977, it operated as a single-teacher classroom before closing in the summer of 1977, after which pupils were transferred to Ste. Rose du Lac School. The former school was they converted into a community centre for at Cayer.
