A monument along Highway 201 in the Rural Municipality of Piney commemorates one of the last old-growth forest stands in southeastern Manitoba and pioneer Albert Thorvaldson. It was erected through the efforts of committee members Albert Thorvaldson, John Tkachuk, Frank Boychuk, Ewald Aarhus, Vic Crook, Bessie Crook, Ron Swaine, and Enid Swaine, as well as Minister of Natural Resources Harry John Enns and Emerson MLA Jack Penner.
