The Shell River School District was established formally in December 1906 and a school operated at an unknown location within the Rural Municipality of Shell River (now within the Municipality of Roblin), possibly in general vicinity of 14-26-28 West of the Prime Meridian where, in 1911, its teacher was boarded by a local family.

The district’s catchment area was defined as Sections 1-3, 10-15, and 22-24 of Township 26 Range 28 West, Sections 6-7 and 18-19 of Township 26 Range 27 West, and Sections 34-36 of Township 25 Range 28W. In November 1911, the district was consolidated into the Goose Lake School District No. 1283.

The Shell River name would be re-used in March 1919 with the founding of the Shell River School District No. 1971.

The teachers of Shell River School were Mary P. Hume (Spring 1909), Clara M. Henderson (Fall 1909), Elsie Gardner (Spring 1910), Ellen Carlson? (Spring 1910), A. Gregory? (Fall 1910), Verna Bissett (Fall 1910), and Annie W. Arnott (Spring-Fall 1911).
