Historic Sites of Manitoba: Riding Mountain School No. 491 (RM of Yellowhead)

The Riding Mountain School District was established formally in February 1887 and a schoolhouse operated at NW10-18-15W in what is now the Rural Municipality of Yellowhead. The district was dissolved in June 1909 and its catchment area became part of the Elphinstone Consolidated School District.

The teachers of Riding Mountain School included William Albert Corbett (Fall 1888 - pt Fall 1890), Agnes Lockhart (pt Fall 1890 - Fall 1891), W. V. Lockhart (Spring-Fall 1892), William Rutherford (Spring 1893 - Fall 1895), A. C. McColgan? (Spring 1896), A. M. Nyblett? (Fall 1896), John Lawrence Veale (Spring 1897), R. M. Nyblett? (Fall 1897), Angus McNevin (Spring-Fall 1898), Henry Edward Chaplin (Spring-Fall 1899), Earle L. Caswell (Spring-Fall 1900), Sydney [Sidney?] Smith (Spring-Fall 1901, Spring 1906 - Spring 1908), records not available (Spring 1902 - Fall 1904), William J. Mahoney (Spring-Fall 1905), James M. Macalister (Fall 1908), Percival R. Leighton (Spring 1909), and Bolton Hodgins (Fall 1909).
