Historic Sites of Manitoba: Parkinson Family Grain Elevator (RM of Roland)

A small wooden grain elevator on a farm in the Rural Municipality of Roland was built in 1904 by farmer George Parkinson (1852-1922), who homesteaded here in 1879. It is still owned by his relatives. A leg inside the elevator, no longer in service, distributed grain into its nine storage bins. At some point, the elevator was raised and put on a new concrete foundation, with a portable auger inserted under the building to empty the bins. Most recently, the roof and walls have been covered with metal sheeting but the original wood inside remains intact.
