A monument at SW23-13-6W in the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie was erected in 1990 to commemorate John Wesley Owens, who settled here in 1890. At the time it was unveiled, the land was being farmed by Owens’ grandsons, Donald George Owens and Harold Joseph Owens.
