This 1946 Norseman bush plane was mounted on a pedestal on Mystery Lake Road in Thompson to commemorate northern aviation and its role in opening up Manitoba's north for economic development. A monument near the plane acknowledges that bush planes were also used to transport Indigenous children to residential schools. A group of volunteers, under the supervision of Fred Palmer and Marion Morberg, spent over two years to restore the aircraft that had crashed near Garden Hill. The plane was dedicated in June 2008.
