The Louis Malo Pioneer Site is an important historic location for the community of St. Malo in the Rural Municipality of De Salaberry, with one of four large Christian crosses that mark the nearby landscape. This is where Louis Malo from Varennes, Quebec, established the area’s first farmsite in 1892, becoming the catalyst for the community that bears his name. Malo's house was located just north of this site. The cross at the gate to the farm is an excellent example of the kind of welcoming way-finding marker used in many of Manitoba’s French Catholic communities. A monument at the front of the cross commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Desrosier family on Lot 89 from 1884-1984.
