Historic Sites of Manitoba: Churchill River Weir Monument (Churchill River Road, Churchill)

A monument beside the Churchill River was dedicated on 25 August 1999 by Manitoba Hydro and the Town of Churchill. It commemorates a 3,700-metre rockfill weir across the river channel that was constructed to increase water levels for the benefit of recreational boating and fishing. Flow in the river had been decreased after 1976 as a result of water diversion into the Nelson River for hydroelectric power production.
