John Langton Tyman

Geographer.

Born at Gravesend, Kent, England in 1935, he received BA and PhD degrees in geography from Oxford University and an MA degree in historical geography from the University of Montreal. He immigrated to Canada in 1959 and came to Brandon where, in 1962, he established the Department of Geography at Brandon College (now Brandon University). He also served as Dean of Science (1974-1975). He received a Margaret McWilliams Award for his book By Section, Township and Range (1973). He left Brandon in late 1975 to take a position at a teaching college in Brisbane, Australia.
