In 1911, the predecessor to this Winnipeg-based company was founded as Standard Machine Works by Charles Pearce and William Bickell. Its business was the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of engines for automobiles, trucks, and tractors. Through the 1920s, it began to service aircraft engines.
It was incorporated in 1949 as Standard Aero Engine Limited by Ernest Hutchison “Ernie” Moncrieff, George Henry Sellers, and Charles Gordon Smith. It is known as StandardAero today and remains a major player in the aviation MRO industry.
