Cory Richard Cory (Sr.) and his son, Gus were with the first party of settlers to file for homesteads in the Wawanesa area. With his wife, Mary Anne, they raided a family. And were very influential in the young community. Their three eldest sons homesteaded as well, and parts of the original Cory land are in Cory hands to this day. Their success was noted province wide and the area around their farms was referred to as the Elliott Settlement. After the arrival of the railroad Elliott’s Siding was located in their area. Their sixteen-year old son, Will had come west with a survey party in 1878 and had selected land for them. Their large family has been an intregal part of the Wawanesa community since that time. Their daughter, Nellie, along with her many other accomplishments, has left an authentic and highly readable record of the pioneer experience in this area.
