Belmont / Schools 1926 The Belmont Schools Cairn - 2021 The first school district in the region, named Craigilea, was formed in 1886. The school house was moved onto the new town site of Belmont in 1890, and a four-roomed brick school was opened in 1904. The name was changed to Belmont Consolidated School in 1917.The school closed in1968 when high school students were transferred to Glenboro, and the structure was demolished. A seniors home was built on the site and, in August 1989, a commemorative monument was unveiled here, along with the bell from the former school.. A new Elementary School was built nearby.
