Wilfred
Barnfield
Wilfred
Barnfield (Fred) lived at Killarney 1898 – 1901. For a while this
family lived on the James Daly farm, east of Killarney. They then
moved to Killarney and lived in the old Anglican Rectory – i.e. the
house just north of the Killarney Hotel, now occupied by Richard
Arbuthnott.
Fred
Barnfield was a C.P.R. section man. He also did other work.
He worked in winter cutting ice on the lake, four-foot blocks which
were sent out by train. He worked digging wells. In this
connection, a man he was working with died when he went down to
retrieve a glove. Barnfield had lowered him by means of a rope
tied around his leg but was unable to haul him up on account of the
scaffolding in the well.
While
living in the Anglican Rectory in Killarney, the family kept house for
the Reverend H. Beacham who was a bachelor.
Fred
Barnfield’s son is C. T. Barnfield, Kenville, Manitoba.
