Mr. Henderson was among the first homesteaders in
1878. He came from Hollen, Ontario where he was born on Jan. 22,
1859.
He is remembered for Mammoth Dry Goods Emporium situated in the
Henderson-Logan Block.
A promotional publication at the time reported that it was:
“The most prosperous, extensive and thoroughly representative dry-goods
and general furnishings establishment west of Winnipeg…”
“In rich millinery goods here are to be found the latest London,
Parisian and New York fashions. In trimmed and untrimmed hats and
bonnets;…”
“….Mr. J.B. Henderson, with commendable public spirit and enterprise,
together with Mr. Logan, erected the finest business block in the town.”
Mr. Henderson married Martha Ann Piesberry in 1884.
In addition to his store he was a Real Estate Dealer and active on the
Chamber of Commerce.
His public service included a term as Mayor and as a Councillor
Mr. Henderson moved to Winnipeg in 1902.
